Music City Center is a landmark 2.1 million-square-foot convention complex that transformed 16 acres of downtown Nashville. Completed in 2013 at an approximate cost of $623 million, the project stands as one of the region’s most ambitious civic developments.

TRC served as steel detailer for the facility’s extensive structural steel program, which incorporated approximately 14,000 tons of structural steel within the convention center’s long-span framing systems. The project required close coordination to support the building’s large exhibit halls, expansive meeting spaces, and complex roof geometry.

The structure is anchored by its signature undulating roof - a sweeping 14-acre form inspired by the rolling hills of Tennessee and the shape of a guitar. This highly complex roof system integrates with the building’s long-span steel framing while supporting significant sustainable infrastructure.

The project achieved LEED Gold certification, highlighted by a 191,000-square-foot vegetative roof, a 360,000-gallon rainwater harvesting cistern, and an array of solar panels that contribute to reduced energy and water consumption. During construction, more than 7,300 workers contributed to the three-year build, which also included major excavation and site transformation efforts.
